FuturePerfect Productions

Founded by Wayne Ashley, the former Director of Arts in Multimedia at Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM), FuturePerfect is a new performance, art and technology initiative.

It was established to both draw attention to and mobilize the unrealized innovative, artistic, and economic potential of joining two important sectors in New York City: the long established culture industry and the city’s still emerging technology sector. Produced in partnership with leading national and international institutions, FuturePerfect highlights new hybrid performance practices and artistic ideas that continue to emerge as computers and other non-human systems become increasingly integral to contemporary culture.

Not only did we overhaul the initial design, we helped Wayne rethink his company. It’s not easy defining something that is breaking new ground. So we ran usability tests, conducted audience surveys, and assembled a strategic document to help focus FuturePerfect’s mission and vision.

Dance Films Association

When DFA came to us, their site was disorganized and did not properly communicate their programs or mission. They also did not have a proper place to list out their events. We worked very closely with DFA to define their overall goals and produced a new site to meet those goals.

ABOUT DFA
DFA is dedicated to furthering the art of dance film. Connecting artists and organizations, fostering new works for new audiences, and sharing essential resources, DFA seeks to be a catalyst for innovation in and preservation of dance on camera.

They were a recipient of The Rockefeller Foundation’s New York City Cultural Innovation Fund Awards in 2011, in partnership with TenduTV (another client of ours).

MoMA – Impressions from South Africa

MoMA needed a more flexible system for their rotating exhibits within the Prints Department. They were constantly developing new sites for every new exhibit. This new implementation allows the Museum to customize the theme, menu, and layout. Not only does this save on development efforts, it will save the money a good deal of money.

On a tech notes, this WordPress installation features custom post types so the works can be queried in multiple layouts for multiple image galleries. We also built in integration with a custom image gallery library called Ajax-Zoom so user can zoom in on specific images.

aCanaryTorsi

We worked very closely with Yanira Castro (the artisitic director and founder of acanarytorsi) to develop a completely custom identity for her company and website. To create the background video for her website, we directed a full video shoot. We also designed multiple versions of the site before finalizing the current design.

In addition to using a custom CMS for the flash front-end, we also integrated Slideshow Pro to manage the galleries, and WordPress to manage the blog.

This project was listed as one of Slideshow Pro’s Top Ten Websites.

New Directors / New Films

We developed a brand spankin’ new WordPress site for MoMA and the Film Society of Lincoln Center, celebrating the 40th year of this awesome film festival. We used lots of new WordPress features (like custom post types). This allowed us to archive 300+ films and directors from the past 20 years of the festival.

Ben Rubin / EAR Studio

Ben suffered a similar predicament as many other clients – an old, outdated, and un-updateable site. We worked closely with Ben to make sure his fantastic body of work could be highlighted and featured in multiple ways. For this project, we decided to use the Thesis Theme + WordPress.

For the homepage, we opted to use the Featured Content Gallery plugin. Since we’ve completed the site, Ben has become a WordPress pro!

DanceBrazil

Jelon Vieira, the artistic director of DanceBarzil, is arguably one of the most influential figures in the world of Capoeira.

When we started working with DanceBrazil, they had virtually no web presence. So we developed their website, setup a facebook page, created a flickr account, and launched a vimeo page. At the end of their inaugural season with us, we also produced a live webcast (in English and Portuguese), streaming their performance across the globe.

Our efforts paid off very well – for every $1 they spent on us, we managed to bring $8 back for a total 1:8 ROI. And most interestingly, viewers from Brazil could finally take in their artistry.

ISSUE Project Room

This was an awesome project all around. We built ISSUE Project Room an entirely new WordPress. During the process, we archived all their content, and put into place a dynamic calendar system, helping them boost online ticket sales and increasing their web traffic by a whole bunch.
