WordPress 3.1 Book Giveaway – Free!

The last few blog posts I’ve posted here have all started out with “exciting news” – this one’s no different as we’re doing a Giveaway of a WordPress book!

WordPress 3 Complete by April Silver is a thorough guide on all things WordPress and even includes code samples if you get the e-book. We’ve got an advance copy and will be posting a review soon. But you don’t have to wait for my review – you can win a copy today. To enter to win a copy of the book, simply post a comment on why you want this book, how you would use it, or simply link to your current WordPress site. A winner will be chosen randomly using random.org.

What you will learn from this book :

  • Install WordPress in a variety of environments
  • Upgrade WordPress from older installations
  • Add images, videos, tags, and categories to blog posts
  • Personalize and control the content of your website
  • Manage the look and feel of your site with customized themes
  • Allow users to have a variety of control over content
  • Link your website to the outside world through feeds, syndication, and podcasting
  • Create custom post types to manage books, movies, people, or anything else you can imagine
  • Design and create your own themes and plugins from scratch

So – leave a comment! Let us know in the comments section why you could use this book and you could win a free copy. Good luck!

Well as a newbie WP consultant & dabbler it’s a real hassle to get good info on the platform. It would be great to have a book on hand to look up things when needed.

  2. I’ve used WP in a slapdash way before — using just what I need — but with the new site I’m working on, I’d like to understand it from the inside-out, and this book would be a big help.

I do a bit of online communications consulting for small non-profits and businesses. My blog/website is WordPress and I’d like to learn some more tricks of the trade so that I can ultimately create WP sites for clients.

You should give me the book so I don’t call you up all the time and ask for free help. Consider this a friendly warning.

I know the dashboard very well (have about 15 sites and help people with theirs). I started one for our local group, Progressive Action, and am training them on using WordPress. I’d love to learn more. Thanks! – Elly Faden

  6. We work strictly with progressive nonprofits and foundations and have a boatload of clients who have legacy websites that are dismal messes. We’ve moved some of them to wordpress but could def use help figuring out tips and tricks! Thanks!

Been using WordPress for a while for my nonprofitbridge.com site, but could always use more ideas.

I want to learn WordPress so I can build websites for activist groups. As the previous sentence implies, I have no WordPress website yet to show you.

  9. I did a blog post on ubuntugeek last year on how to install wordpress 3.0 on ubuntu 10.04, and it turned out to be great to help so many people installing and setting up wordpress for their blogs. I’d love to have a copy of this book to learn more about wordpress and to do a lot more posts on this great blogging engine!

My post on ubuntugeek is here: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/installing-wordpress-3-0-on-ubuntu-10-04-lucid-lynx.html

The next step I’d like to take with WordPress is how to create themes and plugins from scratch. I’ve been editing them for a while now to feel like I’m ready! Check out my site, http://www.sonyalynndesigns.com. I’ll been posting up random tutorials re: wordpress. I just finally got the blog going! Cheers!

I’m looking at setting up 3 additional sites that need to share some posts from my core site and need to figure out if WPMU would be of help here or if its better to simply have separate sites since the main aim is to improve SEO by having different sites for different target markets.

Hi. I’ve been a WordPress advocate for a long time, but have lots more to learn (about plug-ins and changing themes in custom hosting). I wanted to put my knowledge to good use, so I created a free network for teachers, called http://www.schoodl.com. Obviously, I need to learn how to make the site look more dynamic – I think your book could help. Thanks!!

This will be my first website- I’ve been dreaming of for a few years but never had the guidance as of where to start.
